What are the common causes of Chronic Pancreatitis?

  • • Alcohol
  • • Gall stones
  • • High Triglycerides or High calcium levels
  • • Pancreatic ductal anomalies
  • • Cystic fibrosis
  • • Genetic mutations

What are common signs and symptoms of Chronic Pancreatitis?

  • • Pain abdomen
  • • Steatorrhoea – Oily, smelly stool, which often floaty
  • • Diabetes mellitus
  • • Loss of weight
  • • Easy tiredness
  • • Jaundice
  • • Fluid collections around Pancreas (Pseudocyst of Pancreas)

What are the treatment options for chronic pancreatitis?

Medications with Pain killers and Replacement of Pancreatic enzymes and Steroids (Autoimmune diseases). Surgery – If Pain not controlled with medication. Commonly performed procedure – FREYS PROCEDURE – longitudinal opening of pancreatic duct and anastomosed with small intestine along with removal of part of head of pancreas tissue.
